Netherlands demolish South Africa; New Zealand crash
New Zealand saw their World Cup hopes crash as they lost to Germany 3-5, while Netherlands demolished South Africa 7-1 in a Group B encounter at the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014.

New Zealand who were sitting comfortably in Group B before today’s game saw their World Cup journey come to an end after a 3-5 defeat against an young German side in the first game of the day.
Germany took the lead with just two minutes on the clock, when Florian Fuchs hit a bouncing ball past Black Sticks goalkeeper Devon Manchester. The goal gave Germany much needed boost as they went berserk attacking New Zealand goal. Seven minutes later, Mats Grambusch found a brilliant opportunity but his shot went just wide of the goal post.
On the other hand, New Zealand got their act together and created chances, but could not convert the opportunities with Andy Hayward and Hugo Inglis missing their chances. Germany won a penalty stroke in the match, but Christopher Zeller failed to convert. In the 31st minute of the game, Martin Zwicker ran through the Black Sticks defence and shot home past Manchester to increase the German lead to 2-0. With two minutes left in the half, Andy Hayward scored a goal from a penalty corner, first of his three goals in the match. Just before the half time whistle, Christopher Zeller scored from a penalty corner to give Germany a 3-1 lead at half time.
Second half of the game saw Zwicker and Furk score two goals, while New Zealand penalty corner expert Andy Hayward scored two more goals to end the game 5-3 in favour of Germany. The win keeps Germany alive in the competition.

Korea’s poor stint in the World Cup continued as Argentina scored 5 goals against Korea to nearly seal their spot in the semifinals. Argentina’s penalty corner expert Gonzalo Peillat scored his second hat-trick of the tournament in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Argentina’s penalty corner expert Peillat took just four minutes to score his first goal of the match, and then added another goal three minutes later to pile misery on the Korean team. 12th minute of the game saw Lucas Vila score his first of the match, before Peillat completed his hat-trick in the 19th minute of play.
