Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero scored two goals apiece as Manchester City beat Aston Villa 5-0, while Chelsea suffered a surprise defeat at West Bromwich Albion and Southampton piled more misery on winless Queens Park Rangers with a 3-1 away victory.
Manchester City moved a point clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League table after completing a 5-0 victory against Aston Villa. David Silva gave the hosts the lead on the stroke of half-time before Aguero and Tevez scored a goal and a penalty each in the second half. Manchester United's 1-0 defeat at Norwich City meant that they slipped to second place.

Chelsea are four points adrift of Roberto Mancini's side after succumbing to a 2-1 reverse at The Hawthorns. Although Eden Hazard cancelled out Shane Long's opening strike, Peter Odemwingie headed the Baggies in front five minutes after the interval and Steve Clarke's fourth-placed side held on for the win that takes them to within a point of the Blues.

Reading completed their first Barclays Premier League win of the season with a 2-1 success against Everton, who had taken the lead through Steven Naismith before Adam Le Fondre scored twice to complete a fine fightback for the Royals.
Southampton also earned three valuable points as they overcame struggling Queens Park Rangers 3-1 at Loftus Road. Junior Hoilett responded to first-half strikes by Rickie Lambert and Jason Puncheon before Anton Ferdinand's own goal sealed the rock-bottom 'R''s fate.

Elsewhere, Luis Suarez scored twice and Luis Enrique once as three unanswered second-half strikes earned Liverpool a 3-0 victory against Wigan Athletic, while Newcastle United slumped to a 2-1 home defeat by Swansea City for whom Michu and Jonathan De Guzman were on target before Demba Ba's added-time consolation.
