NEW YORK - Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Ban Ki-moon strongly condemns North Korea's missile launch as a provocative act that clearly violates UN Security Council resolutions.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky, said the UN Security Council will hold emergency talks with North Korea reported.

"The secretary-general concerned about the negative impact this provocative act because it could threaten peace and stability in the region," he said.

Japanese media reported Kyodo News, Japan's Special Envoy to the United Nations, urging the Security Council meeting to be held soon to discuss the launch of the rocket.

Government spokesman Osamu Fujimura said the rocket was launched at 9:49 am (local time) and it landed in the sea near the Korean Peninsula and the Philippines.

"We urge the UN Security Council held a security meeting to analyze the situation, but everyone in the country should remain calm until the storm," he said.

He said the government was still looking for confirmation if there is any damage in the territory of Japan as a result of the rocket launch.

Meanwhile, North Korea announced the broadcast station, Unha Rocket launch by Pyongyang as a success.

However, U.S. officials have yet to confirm about software objects into space orbit.
